Well, the DIY project that kept talking to me got loud enough that I just had to do it, even in the midst of the 10 week thing I have going on currently. I got it done this weekend and I am really happy with it. Trouble is, it has my family name on it, so I can’t reveal the entire thing. I doctored the pictures a little, but it loses something in the translation. Let’s see what you think.
Here’s what I started with:
My mom gave this to me a LONG time ago (I’ve admitted I’m a pack rat). This is a canvas she started of me and my brother holding my baby sister.
I did a banner in Print Shop to get an idea of what I wanted. I decided on giving our family name a personalized definition
Painted the canvas black
Kick myself because I KNEW I would need primer to cover up that red. Did I listen to myself? Nope.
Too impatient to wait for the black to dry–prime over it and end up with gray. But it worked.
After second coat of black, apply the cardstock lettering with Mod Podge. Used a Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot software to cut. Georgia font.
I used some scrap pine 1×2 and a brad nailer to make the frame. I marked the staples in the side so I didn’t hit them with the nailer.
Frame on without any stain. I modified the picture to take off our name.
I used a custom mixed stain we already had for our mantel (mantle?). I plan to use it again on a bench I’ll make soon.
So there you have it! I’m really itching to get going on some of the DIY stuff I’ve had to sit on these past weeks. I think that a bench will be next up and then I’m going to rip apart my daughters room. Can’t wait!
